The project
P2GreeN is a Horizon Europe project, with a consortium of 32 partner organizations from 12 European countries plus Switzerland, aiming to “close the gap between fork and farm for circular nutrient flows”. The project’s main objective is to foster a circular material flow system between urban and rural areas by connecting blue urban with green rural infrastructure. P2GreeN will do that through the implementation and exploration of innovative nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) recovery solutions for the utilization of human sanitary waste from urban settlements and its conversion into safe bio-based fertilizers for agricultural production in three pilot regions. The P2GreeN pilot region: Gotland (Sweden), Metropolitan Region of Hamburg-Hannover (Germany) La Axarquia region (Spain).
The kick-off meeting
The kick-off meeting was organised by agrathaer GmbH, the project coordinator, and took place in Hannover (Germany) on 12 and 13 January.
It was an excellent opportunity to get to know the 32 partners that are part of the consortium!
The kickoff started with a warm welcome by the coordinators and a helpful introduction by EU Officer Sofia Pachini. The officer will follow the development of the project on behalf of the European Research Executive Agency (REA). It was followed by a remarkably interesting informative session where the partners involved in developing three different technology systems presented how they will utilize human sanitary waste and convert it into safe bio-based fertilizers in the P2GreeN pilot region. After every presentation, all the questions, doubts, ideas, and remarks were addressed and discussed. This was a wonderful opportunity to better understand the most technical parts of the project. An important session centered on organizing stakeholder interaction was followed by a discussion about stakeholders that should be addressed and included in the project.
During the kickoff meeting, much importance was given to the project identity and how partners would collaborate and work together. Both aspects are critical assets for every successful project, particularly when we have many partners. Many activities, discussions, and workshops were organized to get to know each other and to discuss the best ways to collaborate. They were helpful and fun!
The kickoff meeting was the perfect occasion to get to know the partners and to set the roots for a flourish and motivating collaboration.
P2GreeN project has big plans, and over the next four years, you will undoubtedly hear a lot more about it!
