On 27 Septembre 2023, the BUILD UP platform organised a webinar focused on EPBD Recast and the Next Generation Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).
In the midst of a rapidly changing world influenced by recent global and regional events, the European Union (EU) has set its sights on a green, digitally advanced European building stock by 2050. This ambitious vision, which prioritizes safety, energy efficiency, flexibility, and reduced emissions, is embodied in the imminent adoption of the EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) Recast, a pivotal element of the ‘fit for 55’ package.
The EPBD Recast’s role
At the heart of the EPBD Recast lies the Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), which serve as crucial information tools for building performance assessment and compliance. These certificates are intricately connected with various components of the EPBD, including performance calculation methodologies, EPC databases, the Smart Readiness Indicator, Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), Minimum Energy Performance Standards and Requirements, Building Renovation Passports (BRP), and finance mechanisms.
Collaboration for Effective Implementation
Recognizing the significance of the EPBD Recast and the need for seamless implementation across EU Member States, the EPB Center, REHVA, and BUILD UP, in collaboration with the Next Generation EPCs cluster consisting of 13 projects funded by Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, managed by CINEA, are working to enhance communication between key stakeholders.
The webinar
The event featured a lineup of speakers from EU institutions, experts in the field, and stakeholders who discussed various aspects of the EPBD Recast, its implementation, and its impact on building energy efficiency and sustainability. Panel discussions allowed for in-depth exploration of the topic, and the event aimed to foster collaboration and understanding among stakeholders for the successful implementation of the EPBD Recast across European Member States. The high-level speakers that were featured provided viewpoints on the EPBD Recast’s transposition from the Commission, the Parliament and the Council.
The event served as a platform for crucial discussions on the EPBD Recast and its implications for the future of European buildings. With a focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, and digital advancement, the event underscored the urgency of effective implementation. As Europe looks ahead to a more sustainable future, collaboration among stakeholders remains essential in realizing the goals of the EU Green Deal and REPowerEU.
