The IMPTOX project, of which Moverim is a partner contributing to WP2 (dissemination, communication, and exploitation of results), is hosting a worldwide event during EU Green Week 2024 to discuss the issue of micro and nanoplastic pollution in our waters. Join us to discover how microplastics and nanoplastics are contaminating our waters at alarming rates, endangering marine life and human health.
IMPTOX is an Horizon2020-funded project aiming to understand the potential health risks associated with micro and nanoplastics. IMPTOX scientists are at the forefront of this critical research, investigating how these tiny particles move through the environment, enter the human body, and can affect our health. By studying the link between microplastics and allergic diseases, the project aims to inform policies and protect public health.
Save the date: Tuesday, August 27, 2024. From 10:30 to 12:30
This 2 hour online workshop will serve as a dynamic platform to engage with the pressing issue of MNP pollution. The event will begin with a project overview presented by the project coordinator, setting the stage for keynote speeches by IMPTOX renowned experts. These experts, who are at the forefront of assessing MNP exposure through water, food, and air, will share their groundbreaking work. They will discuss innovative analytical approaches to measure and characterize MNPs, their presence in seafood, and their impact on human health and the environment.
Agenda
- 10:30 – IMPTOX Project Research on Micro- and Nanoplastics in Water Environments
Speaker: Tanja Cirkovic Velickovic from University of Belgrade - 10:45 – Contaminants in the Seafood Chain
Speaker: Andreja Rajkovic from Ghent University - 11:05 – Microplastics in Aquatic Environments: Haven for Microorganisms
Speaker: Elsa Gadoin from Ghent University - 11:30 – Are Microplastics Shuttles for Pathogenic Bacteria in Marine Environments?
Speaker: Stephanie Bedhomme from CNRS - 11:50 – Tiny Plastics, Big Problems: Metal Ion Carriage by Microplastics in Aquatic Environments
Speakers: Tatjana N. Parac-Vogt and Mhamad Aly Moussawi from KU Leuven - 12:10 – Micro- and Nanoplastic Pollution in the Environment: Links Between Environmental Health and Human Health
Speaker: Jana Asselman from Ghent University
Keynote presentations will be followed by interactive panel discussions, providing an opportunity for in-depth questions regarding the complex nature of MNP water pollution. The conference will conclude with a plenary session summarizing the key insights and outcomes from the discussions. This last session will also outline actionable steps for attendees to contribute to the fight against MNP pollution.
The conference is designed to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including scientists, policymakers, industry leaders, students, and the general public. By participating, you will have the opportunity to elevate your awareness and understanding of this critical issue, and to become an active part of the global movement towards cleaner water and a healthier future.
Don’t miss this opportunity and register now for the IMPTOX workshop and be part of the change.
