The project
The P2GreeN project aims to create new circular governance solutions within the fork-to-farm framework to eradicate nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) pollution. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilisers are crucial for plant growth, but their excess can lead to environmental pollution of air and water. P2GreeN will address this by developing circular nutrient flows for N and P, linking blue urban and green rural infrastructures. The project will focus on recovering N and P from human sanitary waste in urban areas and converting it into safe, bio-based fertilisers for agricultural use. These innovative recovery solutions will be tested and demonstrated in three pilot regions along a north-south axis. With a funding of over 8 million euros from the Horizon Europe Programme, P2GreeN will last 48 months ending in November 2026, and involves 32 partners from 14 European countries.
